What to Expect During Our Free Case Consultation

Lawyer and client during a consultation

Written by Timothy Czekaj

If you’re facing legal difficulties, you may be wondering whether you need a lawyer. It isn’t always clear what lawyers can do to help you and lawyers can be expensive. For this reason, many law firms will offer a free consultation, but few ever explain what exactly it entails. The initial consultation can provide you with tremendous value and help you decide what to do without having to incur the expense of talking with a lawyer.

At Czekaj Law, LLC, the first consultation in most cases is free. Our Pennsylvania lawyers handle a wide variety of cases, including criminal defense, family law, bankruptcy, and civil litigation. We have the knowledge and experience you need in almost any case. If we cannot help you, there is a good chance that we will be able to refer you to someone who can. To schedule your free consultation, simply fill out our online contact form or call us at 717-275-9770 to discuss your case.

We Will Listen to Your Story

Our first job as lawyers is to listen. Whether you are facing a criminal charge, a foreclosure, or a family issue, we want to hear about it from you. We give you the time and space to tell us about your case in your own words. We do not expect you to know what details will be relevant, so we let you tell us everything you have to say so that we can best evaluate your case.

We also recognize that there is more to your case than just the legal issues. Your legal problem may involve several personal or family issues that are just as important. We want to understand all of the challenges you are facing so that we can help you find the best possible solution.

We Will Explain Your Options

Once you have had the opportunity to tell your story, we will lay out your options for you. We try to provide our clients with multiple options whenever possible, some of which may involve not hiring our firm or seeking other legal counsel. From there, we take our time to make sure that you understand the potential ramifications of each option so that you can make an informed decision.

We may also explain which of your options we believe may offer the best solution for you. However, we never persuade a client to pursue a course of action that they are not completely comfortable with. We believe that you should make the decision as to how to proceed, and then it’s up to us to get results.

We Will Explain Our Fees

Lawyers can be expensive and legal fees are often not in the budget. We don’t want there to be any surprises, so we make sure our clients understand exactly what they will be billed for before we proceed.

What You Can Do to Prepare

To get the most out of the initial consultation, it is best to come prepared. Here are some suggestions that we have to help you prepare for the consultation:

  • Gather up any documents or paperwork that you think may be important. Don’t worry about whether or not we will “want” to see it – you won’t be wasting our time.
  • Jot down some notes to collect your thoughts. You may be nervous when you meet with us or simply overwhelmed with the stress of your situation. Taking notes can help you focus your thoughts and help you explain what you want us to know. In particular, be sure to write down any questions that you may have.
  • Ask questions. If you don’t understand something, don’t be afraid to ask questions. We want you to understand your options and exactly how we can help.

Hiring a lawyer is a personal choice, and the first consultation is an important first step in that choice. If you feel that an attorney is not giving you adequate attention in the consultation, it is usually a pretty good indication of how your case will be handled after you retain the attorney. Our goal is to help you make the right choice, even if that means hiring another lawyer. If you’re facing a legal issue and need to talk with someone, call us at 717-275-9770 or use our online contact form to schedule your free consultation today.
